By using SmartMed, your hospital is following a completely closed medication management process. SmartMed supports doctors with digital prescription, medical monitoring (AMTS), the entire logistics process in the pharmacy and administration at the patient's bedside. In all steps of the medication process, SmartMed can use barcode scanning for optimal safety and efficiency. Die Software ist patientenzentriert aufgebaut und beinhaltet daher 1 Datei für klinische, ambulante und Notfallpatienten. The use of SmartMed inevitably reduces the number of medication errors. The system is cloud-based and meets all security requirements regarding information security and the German Data Protection Act (DSGVO). SmartMed can also be installed locally on request.

Processes
Verification
During a hospital visit, knowledge about the patient's used medication is essential for successful treatment. SmartMed 'Verification' provides insight into the current medication use (the medication file), including (un)planned questioning of the healthcare connection network (LSP). The system can be used in both outpatient and clinical settings and works on admission and discharge.
Profile
All patient-specific information regarding allergies, intolerances and contraindications can be found in the 'Profile' process. For example, an allergy to penicillins or a contraindication COPD is registered or an electronic health record/personal health environment is imported. This enables the prescriber to assess medication-related warnings in a timely manner and allows the pharmacist to perform checks correctly and completely.
Prescribe
The 'Prescribing' section has been developed to allow the practitioner to prescribe medicines intuitively, safely and efficiently based on formularium and product range. In addition to the regular dosage schedules, it is possible to use one-off, recurring or combined schedules, either for the current situation, during admission or when the patient is discharged. Medication appointments and safety warnings are visually displayed and common medications can be marked as favorites.
Monitor
Ensure patient safety of the medication record with the Monitoring Process. Easily manage surveillance signals based on G-Standard information and determine the relevance of signals and controls with configurable filters. Additionally, develop your own additional monitoring rules and perform full monitoring of all medication orders. This process enables the practitioner and the pharmacist to work together to establish the optimal therapy for the individual patient.
Logistics
The entire process of ordering, article and stock management and distribution by the hospital pharmacy is flexibly set up with the 'Logistics' section. This includes supplying departments, supplying patient-specific medication and external deliveries to customers. The system complies with requirements such as the Opium Act or the Falsified Medicine Directive. Contract management with suppliers is part of the ordering process. Special dashboards allow the pharmacist to monitor and analyze the logistics.
Administration
The module 'Administration' is based on 'the five rights of medication':
- The right patient.
- The right medicine.
- The right dosage.
- The right route of administration.
- The right time.
Safety for the patient and user-friendliness for the nursing staff are paramount. During the administration process, the nurse can register single administrations, double initials, make patient-specific orders and view the medication order. All this with one goal: a flawless administration process.
Use
The patient can have an important role in the 'Use' of medication. During a hospital visit, it is possible to administer the use of medication to the patient. In addition, the system offers the possibility to continue to use medication used at home during an admission. With a special app, the hospital provides the patient with the medication file in digital form upon discharge. This improves medication compliance.
