What does a functional designer do?

Hilde has been working on the SmartMed design team for exactly one year. With a background as a therapist and work experience at several healthcare software companies, Hilde has an excellent foundation for understanding the complex field of medication management. But what does that team all do? We got to spend a week with them .....

Hilde has been working at SmartMed for exactly one year.

‍Whatdoes a functional designer do?

"As a functional designer, I work with the team to correctly and completely write down the desired changes in the SmartMed solutions. Often a request for a new feature comes to the design team as a one-liner. The key then is to understand what the real problem is that needs to be solved. To do this, I engage in discussions with pharmacists and colleagues to get a good idea of the solution direction. I discuss the final design with the technical front-end team. When they finish building, we check together whether it was built as agreed."

‍

The versatile work and variety make the work attractive for Hilde: "The nice thing about SmartMed is the versatility, both in the different solutions, but also in the people you work with. For example, in recent weeks I have worked both on FarmaSys 6, but also made a design for the mobile version (the SmartMed Pharmacy Mobile which is used in pharmacies) and on the patient app (SmartMed forYou).

‍

This week I am additionally helping colleagues test messaging in the Medication Process 9 program. This makes every day different, and it's great to see how all those pathways come together in an efficient and user-friendly solution."
